Asmodee has announced the hiring of former CMON Chief Operating Officer David Preti, a move that signals the board game giant’s serious interest in expanding into the crowdfunding and miniatures space.
Preti was employed at CMON for 8 years. He joined the company in 2016 as Creative Director and took over as Chief Operating Officer in 2019. During his time at CMON, the company was responsible for some of the largest names in crowdfunding, raising millions through Zombicide, Massive Darkness, and Marvel United.
With the miniatures giant struggling with rising costs and unpredictable tariffs in the U.S. Preti left CMON in September 2024, and his last day was on March 9, 2025. He now steps into a new role at Asmodee as Head of Crowdfunding Strategy and Miniature Lines.
“We’re happy to have David Preti onboard and we’ll be providing more information on his role at a later date,” an Asmodee spokesperson told Board Game Wire.
During his tenure at CMON, Preti played a key role in shifting the company’s primary revenue stream to crowdfunding, restructuring its distribution network, and securing major licenses from brands like Marvel, Mattel, Netflix, and Spin Master. He also oversaw the company’s recent transition from Kickstarter to Gamefound, ending a 12-year run of nearly 60 campaigns on the former platform—campaigns that collectively raised over £100 million.
Asmodee’s decision to bring Preti on board may indicate the company’s ambitions to fill the void left by CMON’s struggles, and to establish a stronger presence in the world of crowdfunding and miniatures.
