All aboard, one of tabletop gaming’s biggest modern hits is heading for the screen.
Netflix has signed an exclusive deal with Asmodee to develop film, television, and unscripted projects based on the bestselling board game Ticket to Ride, marking another major step in the streaming giant’s push into game-based entertainment.
First stop: a feature film
The first project confirmed under the partnership is a feature film written by Ben Mekler and Chris Amick. Producing teams include Eric Tannenbaum and Kim Tannenbaum for The Tannenbaum Company, alongside Jonathan Levine and Gillian Bohrer for Megamix.
Game designer Alan R. Moon, who will also executive produce, shared his excitement about the adaptation:
“Just when I thought life couldn’t get more exciting, Ticket to Ride is teaming up with Netflix. I can’t wait to help bring these projects to the millions of fans of the game.”
Why this matters
Since its 2004 release, Ticket to Ride has sold more than 20 million copies and been translated into over 30 languages. For many players, it’s considered a gateway title, the game that first introduced them to modern board gaming beyond traditional classics.
That broad appeal is likely a key reason Netflix sees strong adaptation potential. The platform has been steadily building a catalogue of game-inspired content, from the critically acclaimed Arcane to series such as Castlevania, plus upcoming projects including a live-action Assassin’s Creed adaptation and a Gears of War movie.
Bigger picture for tabletop gaming
The agreement highlights Asmodee’s ongoing strategy to broaden it’s tabletop games IPs, for gaming tables around the world to millions of screens. With Ticket to Ride heading to screens, the board game adaptation trend shows no signs of slowing down.
